"...Within the previous several months there had been drastic changes in his behaviour. Although he had been an adequate student at college, he had to leave college as he had failed all his subjects. He had excelled at a variety of non-team sports, often winning trophies, but now he had dropped all that and took no exercise at all.
He had always been careful with his health and consequently had been very healthy. Now however, over the past several weeks he had expressed vague complaints about his head and chest, which he felt, meant that he was "in very bad shape".
Over the past several days he had been spending most of his time in his room staring out of the window at nothing in particular. He had also become uncharacteristically careless about his appearance and personal habits.
As a child and adolescent he had always been extremely shy except when in a very structured situation. As a result of this he had spent a large amount of his time alone (often working out with weights). Despite his sporting activities, he had no real friends. He had tended to keep his feelings to himself, nonetheless he had been prone to misunderstandings with others often taking offence where none was intended."
